Ulrich Mack:
Born 1934 in Thuringia, Germany. After the elementary and secondary school he works as a miner in the Ruhr District. 1956-1962 Studies at the Academy of Visual Atrs in Hamburg and for one year he works as a fisherman in Spain and as a lumberjack in Sweden. 1963-1967 Mack works as a Press photographer for the "Quick" and "twen" in Munich. 1967 he receives awards in the World Press Competition for the photostory "Wild Horses in Kenya". From 1967 he photographed for "Stern" in Hamburg. 1973 his photographs are selected to participate in the first Polaroid portfolio "Twelve Instant Images". He is teaching photography as Professor of Visual Communication at Dortmund Technical College. 1978 begins photo documentation of Pellworm, its people, and the Hallingen Islands. 1984 he spend eight month of Harkers Island, North Carolina, USA to compare this two islands. (The book "Island People" was published 2000.) 1988 Mack was Visiting Professor at the College of Communication, Boston Universty and Artist in Residence at the School for the Arts, Boston University.
